ramadan is there a difference with northern and southern albanin music ??
Chitowngreek, I'm sorry but I do not know what kind of clarinet he is playing I'm afraid. I do not know much knowledge about clarinets so I found this website and joined it. Smile I'm interesting in learning the clarinet. Well there are differences between Northern and Southern Albanian music yes, it differs in all regions but mainly it is divided by Ghegs in the Northern of Albania, and areas also surrounding Albania and where Albanian populations are, and down to the Southern part of Albania where you have Tosks (me), Çams and Labs.

Each region has its own unique characters of performance, including their varied and distinctive traditional costumes and folk instruments, which differ in many aspects from the north to the south. The instruments in the north are lahuta, one string fiddle instrument - çiftelia. Others include sharkia, qemane and zumarë.

Toskëria, along with its polyphonic music, is divided into four main dialects which are named after four ethnic sub-regions of the south: Toskë in the East, Myzeqe in the West, Labëria in the South West, and Çamëria in the South. The Toskë region beings with the Shkumbini River and extends to the southern-most point of the Albanian territories, extending south beyond Albanian borders, including regions of Greece inhabited by minority group of Albanians. Gajde is the one of the most popular and is mainly used in the Toskëria region. The gërrnet (clarinet) is an important folk istrument. Its sound blends naturally with the other Albanian folk instruments and therefore that its usage is throughout the country. I'm not 100% sure but I think in Albania we use the clarinet in B flat. A cyla dyjare (a flute) wich is performed strictly in southerin Albania, this instrument was born out of the strong influences of the polyphonic practices in the area.
In the southern Toskëria, the most common form of folk instruments used contains lahuta, violinë, gërrnet and dajre.

This look like a boehm and going through some youtube videos of albanian players I see a trend of boehm clarinets...
Not sure if I got a good sample there. Petroloukas and all Ipirotika that I have seen are Albert clarinets.

Ramadan,

Go in the beginner section in the website and you will see the difference between Albert and Boehm...
What you said about Bb has to do with the tonality. So it can be either kind.
Ramadan, great cultural info. I would like to see a typical Northern and then a typical Southern Clarinet video that can show me the differences if style! When you get a change, I would appreciate it!
