it just occured to me....
In epirotic songs... Do they all go on the pentatonic scale?
I am playing at a band and we have a small pot -pouri with:
Gianni mou
Delvino
Stis Pargas
De boro manoula
What I noticed is that they all share the same notes....
Is this a golden rule for all epirotika?

if you just listen to the pentatoniki scale ,without playing a song it stands out as iperotiko ,so im saying yes iperotica use mainly and probably always the pentatonic scale .

Ok, then, I will keep my eye open for some that are different...
Here is how to figure out a Major pentatonic scale out of every note:
Select the starting note (βάση
for the song and see the Major scale:C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C
D - E - F# - G - A - B - C# - D
E - F# - G# - A - B - C# - D# - E
F - G - A - Bb - C - D - E - F
G - A - B - C - D - E - F# - G
A - B - C# - D - E - F# - G# - A
B - C# - D# - E - F# - G# - A# - B
and the sharps:
C# - D# - E# (=F) - F# - G# - A# - B# (=C) - C#
Db - Eb - F - Gb - Ab - Bb - C - Db
Eb - F - G - Ab - Bb - C - D -Eb
F# = F# - G# - A# - B - C# - D# - E# (=F) - F#
Gb = Gb - Ab - Bb - Cb (=B) - Db - Eb - F - Gb
Ab = Ab - Bb - C - Db - Eb - F - G - Ab
Bb = Bb - C - D - Eb - F - G - A - Bb
If you don't have this table in front of you keep in mind that the MAJOR note intervals go like this:
Step - Step - Half step - Step - Step - Step - half step
or simple:
SSHSSSH
[SIZE="4"]THEN [/SIZE]
To extract the Pentatonic select the
1st - 2nd - 3rd - 5th - 6th note and that's it.
EXAMPLE:
So if I start for example with an A ( Like I do in the video lessons for epirotika)
Find the major which will be: A B C# D E F# G#
And select the 1st 2nd 3rd, 5th and 6th note:
A B C# E F#
There it is!

And here is how to figure out a MINOR pentatonic
Find the Major pentatonic first.
Now change the 1st note (the base aka tonic) 3 semitones down.
Example:
Based on the previous post the A Major Pentatonic is:
A B C# E F#
As I mentioned 4 lines above drop the 1st note (A) 3 semitones -> which gives F#
so the Minor pentatonic for A would be:
F# G# Bb C# D#

Hello Tseligas- I hope this helps.
Take the C major scale and take the 12356 notes to create major pentatonic
then to create the minor take 1, flatten the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and flatten the 7th.
Major Pentatonic ....... Minor Pentatonic ....... Blues Scale
C D E G A C ........ C Eb F G Bb C ........ C Eb F F# G Bb C
D E F#A B D ........ D F G A C D ...... Raise the third note by a semitone
E F#G#B C# E ........ E G A B D E
F G A C D F ........ F Ab Bb C Eb F ........ For the C major pentatonic you have the
G A B D E G ........ G Bb C D F G ........ relative minor which is A minor. Both of
A B C# E F# A ........ A C D E G A ........ scales share the same time signature. For
B C# D# F# G# B ....... B D E F# A B ......... D major pentatonic its relative would be
...........B minor, etc.

Tseligas - the A major pentatonic is indeed A B C# E F# However, the
A minor pentatonic is A C D E G !
The relative for A major is the F# minor. Which would be F# A B C# E

Oh thanks nianen. I stand corrected. I was reading that stuff from a book regarding the minor. And it didn't really make much sense. I ll take your word for this one!!!

I am puzzled. Take the ...Gia sena Kai Gia mena....
Obviously a song from Epirus. Is it on a pentatonic scale?
Cause when I play it I use these notes :
La is do# re mi
And I can't find a pentatonic like that... Any clue?
